Protimeter Hammer Electrode is designed for making measurements in wood and wood structures such as wooden floors and timber stock. The Hammer Electrode has pin-electrodes with insulated shanks so measurements are taken at the tip only allowing measurements at different depth. Measures moisture to a depth of 1.38 in (35 mm). The Hammer Electrode plugs into any Protimeter pin type moisture meter. Its pin-electrodes have insulated shanks and it is used to obtain moisture readings in wood up to 1-1/4 in below the surface, irrespective of surface moisture. This is a more meaningful (and less destructive) measurement than an oven-drying test which gives only an average moisture content instead of (what one wants to know) the highest moisture content. In buildings, it has been used for measuring moisture in floor joists without lifting floorboards.
